We enjoyed an afternoon devoted to learning about Diwali at Clutton Primary School recently whereby children in all year groups were taught the meaning of the Diwali festival.

Diwali celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and we made this accessible to our primary school aged children through the story of Prince Rama and Princess Sita.

Reception, year 1 and year 2 made Diwali cards and then chose to either retell the story by making masks, colouring in characters from the story or making giant rangoli patterns. Year 3 and year 4 showed the story through a dance they created themselves, whilst year 5 and year 6 made traditional rangoli patterns from rice in groups.

Teacher of year 3 and year 4 at Clutton Primary School, Mrs Georgeson commented: “As a Church of England school, religious education is an extremely valued part of the curriculum, with pupils learning about different faiths including Christianity, Judaism, Islam, Sikhism and Hinduism. The Diwali celebrations were an opportunity to involve every child in a collective learning experience to enhance their understanding of this important religious festival.”
